BUILD BETTER GRIP STRENGTH
3 EXERCISES FOR GRIP STRENGTH • “These grip moves double as corestrength and posture drills,” says Frank Baptiste, certified strength and conditioning coach and cyclist. Rest for 90 seconds to 2 minutes between sets of these exercises, performing all sets before moving on to the next move.
ADD FIBER TO YOUR DIET
THE BEST HIGH-FIBER FOODS • According to the National Academy of Medicine, you should aim to consume 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories. That’s 25 to 38 grams a day for most people. Increase your fiber intake slowly, Hyman says, and drink water as you eat—too much fiber without enough fluid can lead to constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, or discomfort.
CARE FOR TUBELESS TIRES
ADD TIRE SEALANT WITHOUT A SYRINGE
TOP OFF TIRE SEALANT • Most bike shops can easily top off your tire sealant, but adding sealant can be quick and done at home with some basic tools and know-how. For most types of tires and sealants, all you’ll need are a valve core remover, a sealant syringe, sealant, shop rags, and a floor pump. Dealing with sealant can be messy, even for pro mechanics. While it’s usually water-soluble and nontoxic, you’ll want to do this in a workshop, garage, patio, or backyard, or on a tiled floor—not in your living room on that fancy rug.
