A RADICAL WAY TO DIE
When security specialist Duke Rogan’s state-of-the-art computer system fails at a controversial bio-tech firm, a raging inferno spreads, and a grotesquely charred body is discovered in the aftermath. With an extremist anti-technology group claiming responsibility, the case grows even more complex when the victim’s autopsy unexpectedly reveals that he bled to death. In her latest novel, Brennan reprises security specialist Duke Rogan, from FATAL SECRETS. After domestic terrorists destroy a biotech lab, breaching the state-of-the-art security system Rogan installed there, he is paired with FBI Agent Nora English to help solve the arson-murder. While the voice Anne Marie Lee uses for Rogan is strained, her lonely, haunting portrayal of Nora is spot-on. Nora is a confident career woman, but childhood traumas have left her personal life in shambles, and her internal pain resonates in Lee's narration. Lee's other voices are equally wonderful, expressing the characters' edgy, exasperated, or delusional personalities. The story is a bit weak, but Lee's narration thoroughly engages. A.R.H.
