Joy Ride • For this month’s cover shoot, Oprah channeled her inner biker chick, pedaling around the grounds of her Santa Barbara property and coasting down the tunnel of palm trees she calls Hallelujah Lane. “In the morning when it’s cool and the trees are starting to warm up from the sun, steam rises off of them like spirit,” she says. “And they all kind of lean in and come together in praise.” Oprah’s own spirits were extra high that day—and it wasn’t just the fresh air and cardio. “You know why I’m happy?” she said to photographer Ruven Afanador as she peered into her basket. “Because there’s brrrrrrread!”
