      The mayor has cast Demondale--an alternate version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sunnydale--in an omnipresent shadow, allowing demons and vampires to rule unfettered. The "Trio" are the only humans left until a portal-hopping Buffy arrives. When she swipes a magical gem and staff from them, she interrupts Warren's Ascension ritual, resulting in his death. Wanting his friend back, Jonathan tries to strike a deal with the vengeance demon Anya only for both of them to soon realize that Buffy's new gear means she's likely to wipe out their entire dimension's existence. Jonathan and Anya team up with Angelus, Spike, Drusilla, vampire Willow, and other nefarious characters to stop Buffy, and build unlikely friendships along the way. Familiarity and nostalgia are the obvious draws here as every page is chock-full of Buffy and turn-of-the-millennium references, especially chapters told from nerdy Jonathan's point of view. Buffy's villains are iconic and beloved, so hardcore fans will appreciate that they take center stage in this story that includes plenty of butt-kicking and campy one-liners.
