This third and final series installment (Touching the Clouds; Wings of Promise) finds Kate married to Dr. Paul Anderson. When she discovers she's pregnant, she must decide whether to continue working as a bush pilot. Meanwhile, Paul gets a call from San Francisco about his ill mother and has to take off, leaving Kate alone. When he doesn't return, Kate is filled with a new kind of dread. VERDICT Kate is as spunky as ever. Her predicament will propel readers forward until the very last page. Recommend the series to readers of Sarah Sundin.

In the emotional conclusion to Leon's superb Alaskan Skies series (Wings of Promise, 2011; Touching the Clouds, 2010), pilot Kate Evans must learn how to navigate a new realm, marriage. She and bush doctor Paul Anderson are happy to be wed, but they still have much to learn about each other. Kate is happiest flying above the Alaskan wilderness, but Paul is concerned about her safety. Kate struggles to balance her passion for flight and her independence with her desire to be an obedient and loving wife. Paul struggles with demons from his past. At once attracted to and alarmed by Kate's headstrong spirit, Paul is unsure of how to live with such a daring woman. He becomes controlling in an attempt to avoid life's pain, forgetting his faith in God's sovereignty. Joy Takes Flight is an inspirational story of making marriage work, even through tragedies. Leon writes with her usual flair about the exciting world of unspoiled Alaska as she blends elements of adventure and belief with a poignant tale of the transforming power of love.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2012, American Library Association.)
