NAMED ONE OF USA TODAY'S BEST READS OF 2022

"Discovering you're fiercer than you ever dreamed!" —Abbi Waxman

Moving to a new town is hard enough to navigate even without the challenges of the tween years, the mean girls, and the helicopter neighbors.

When single mom Ginny remarries and moves with her quirky daughter from Queens to a leafy, beautiful suburb in New Jersey, she has no idea what she's getting into. Though she's never been impressed by material things, she is thrilled that getting a second chance at love comes with the added bonus of finally giving eleven-year-old Harri everything she never could before.

And then she meets the neighbors. Including the woman who has her eye on Ginny's new husband...

"We need Lisa Roe's side-eye on a fresh start for everyone, with neighbors who put it all at risk." —ANN GARVIN, USA Today bestselling author of I Thought You Said This Would Work

"A story about keeping one's feet firmly planted while simultaneously dreaming big." —KATHLEEN WEST, author of Are We There Yet?

For Ginny Miller and her young daughter, Harri, it's been just the two of them ever since Harri's dad walked out. As a single mother living in Queens, Ginny has provided for Harri by working multiple jobs and painting pet portraits on the side. It's been a struggle and Ginny wonders if she's doing enough. After embarking on a whirlwind romance with Jeff that ends with him moving them out to the suburbs of New Jersey, Ginny feels that she can finally provide the life that Harri deserves. But after Ginny and Harri meet their neighbors and settle into their new life, Ginny begins to wonder if their Queens-bred wits can stand up to suburbia's Mean Girls spite. Roe's first novel is a genuine and charming contemporary work featuring themes of family dynamics, bullying, and remaining true to yourself. Roe's strength is in her characterization, as readers will fall for this mother-daughter duo and root for them to succeed. An excellent women's fiction debut.
