This audiobook offers another take on what happened to the Bennet sisters after the events in Austen's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. Featured here is Mary, the middle sister, who is often regarded as bookish without being scholarly, musical without being talented, and self-righteous without being self-aware. Soft-spoken narrator Alison Larkin shows listeners a new Mary who becomes caught up in murderous intrigue and espionage. Larkin does an admirable job of presenting Mary as adventurous and fun. She also gives Mary's mysterious benefactress, Lady Trafford, a voice that is both erudite and slightly sinister. Her portrayals of gentlemen are all believable and distinctive. This story is the beginning of a new historical mystery series. D.L.G. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine
