Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas's wedding is a few weeks away, but instead of planning the nuptuals, she finds herself involved in the murder of a famous model, with her own best friend as the prime suspect. In a metropolis of the future, Eve is aided by sophisticated communication technology but still misses key clues because of her personal involvement. Cristine McMurdo-Wallis is a perfect narrator for this series, with voices that totally suit the characters' personalities, dialects that are authentic, and a straightforward style that conveys the suspense and excitement without melodrama. She also handles the steamy sex scenes with aplomb. This performance is an example of how, in the hands of a superb reader, what might be overwriting comes off as great read. S.S.R.
