Her sweet voice and sweeping tones are reminiscent of an epic poem as opposed to a history of this tumultuous period of English and Scottish history. From Stuart's birth and before, through her marriages, reigns in France and Scotland, and imprisonment in the Tower of London, Rayner's dulcet tones carry this biography to listeners. British, French, and Scottish history, politics, and intrigue are recited fluidly. Dialogue is rare but who speaks is obvious, with Rayner using subtle accents and intonations, especially for Scottish brogues.
